The North America Mahindra group is already finding ways to deliver on the GenZe connected electric bikes (ebikes) and electric escooter (escooter) platform. It announced its GenZe Fleet e-Bike – the world’s only electric bicycle that is purpose-built for fleets with IoT technology, to help independent operators manage, launch, and maintain a rental, corporate, or shared e-Bike fleet.

GenZe is also using its experience with other fleet clients. Its GenZe fleet partners are Ford GoBike, Scoot, Scoobi, Postmates, and Doordash. It now feels that e-bikes offer a zero-emissions solution to delivery couriers, sightseeing tourists, daily commuters, and city workers. As e-bikes become more present, many are seeing how much of a low-cost, eco-friendly alternative it is. Add to this that today many office spaces and city spots offer parking and code enforcement for e-bike fleets.
According to GenZe Chief Commercial Officer Tom Valasek: “Shared-use and delivery fleets are now a major part of the e-Bike category, as operators recognize the many benefits of electric bicycles. We’re delivering a plug-and-play solution that makes it easier for independent operators to establish and maintain an e-Bike fleet – regardless of size.”
What GenZe brings to the table is a free-floating durable cable lock solution that unlocks via a smartphone app. With GPS location tracking and theft security, it reports via an API data feed the battery level, lock/unlock state, distance traveled, operating time, and more. The data feed can easily connect into an operator’s existing system. With its removable battery, a key feature for fleet operators, faster battery swapping reduces labor.
This year GenZe added a theft-resistant seat, as well as integrated protective fenders with a covered chain guard and hub cover. There is now a lightweight aluminum frame with newer Shimano mechanical disc brakes, as well as a front carrier basket with a customizable decal graphics package. GenZe says its Class 1 e-Bike was designed to reduce maintenance costs and compliant with most electric bikeshare operators in the US, and upcoming MDS and GBFS standards.
On a personal note, I’ve had a GenZe 101 for 4 years and all I can say is that the e-bike just works. It is an everyday rider and has suffered no problems, not even brake or gear maintenance. My wife and I have been both pleasantly surprised with how sturdy and how low-key it is.
